JU withheld suspension of four students

Hasan Tanvir, JU correspondent: Jahangirnagar University (JU) authorities withheld the suspension of four students yesterday, after two days of suspending them for beating a journalist (JU correspondent, channelionline.com) and assaulting a 2nd year female student on the campus on September 24.

The suspended students are Ya Rafiu Sikder Apon, Mostafizur Rahman and Shohel Rana, They are students of public administration department and Shuvashish Ghosh of Bangla department. All demand themselvs activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) JU unit.

The decision is knowm from the university’s public relations office. JU acting registrar Rohima Kaniz said, “JU Vice Chancellor Prof Farzana Islam took the decision using her executive power”.

“The decision is taken to investigate the matter deeply. As JU admission test is running, authority did not get enough time to look into the matter,” said  JU Proctor Sikder Md Zulkarnaine.

On September 24, some rough-neck men beat up Mahmudul Haque Sohag, a master’s student of journalism department and campus correspondent of an online news portal, and assaulted a female student of the JMS department.
