JU student killed after being struck by falling iron rod

Hasan Tanvir, JU correspondent: A first year student of Jahangirnagar University has been killed after being struck by an iron rod falling from a construction site in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi. Another student also  injured by the incident. Dhanmondi Police Station SI Golam Mostofa said, The incident occurred next to the under construction Medinova building in Dhanmondi on Friday evening.

The deceased student has been identified as 21-year-old Mahmud bin Ashraf, a student of the Department of Philosophy at Jahangirnagar University. The injured fellow is Iftedar Evan, 21, a student at a private university in Dhanmondi. Evan has been admitted to a local hospital in Dhanmondi.

“The two were playing cricket on an empty road next to Medinova building on Friday evening. All on a sudden an iron rod from a nearby construction site fell onto the electric lines above them” said SI Golam Mostafa.

People hear a loud sound and the power went out in the locality. At the time the rod  fell onto Ashraf and Evan. Both were first taken to a local hospital, then Ashraf was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. He was declared dead around 9pm.
